toilet malfunction update
apparently my toilet was a Crane Canada toilet, and there have been several reported incidents of tanks splitting out-of-the-blue.
in fact, i just learned that there have been class-action suits in BC, and there was a rash of toilet malfuntion recently in Grimshaw, Alberta…
Cracked toilet tanks causing a lot of damage
not so “very rare” after all!

toilet malfunction
ack! on friday morning my apartment suffered flooding from a “very rare” toilet malfunction…

see more of my toilet mal-fotos on flickr
the irony of this uncommon disaster is that it happened less than a week after i had decluttered and reorganized my apartment.
i had just replaced the crappy futon with a gorgeous chaise longue. i had even spent an hour finding the perfect spot for my new leafy potted plant.
now there are two fans and a dehumidifier sucking up power as they dry out the wet carpet.
wet carpet smells like wet dog… :-(

no place for my stuff!
i spent the weekend shredding, recycling, donating, garbaging and gifting a bunch of my stuff, and was reminded of George Carlin’s A Place For My Stuff (see also Stuff; according to George Carlin).
here are the three strangest things i have held onto over the years and finally discarded this weekend:
- detachable beaded fringe from a $50 pair of jean shorts i had purchased and had tried to return, but apparently stores don’t take back worn merchandise (what can i say, i was in high school)…
- automatic shift thingy i had broken off of a pick-up truck (accidentally!) while driving around the random coal mine i worked at…
- Canon StarWriter 80 (not really strange, but an entirely useless old-school word processor) — there are people trying to sell theirs on ebay; mine is on its way to an ecostation…
for a truly cathartic experience, “when in doubt, throw it out!”
and as one of the “web guys” once said… YAGNI!
you ain’t gonna need it!
