tonight the tragically hip played macewan hall at university of calgary, a much more intimate venue than the usual stadiums they rock out.
they played quite a few songs from their latest CD, World Container, and a mishmash of other songs including 100th Meridian, Blow at High Dough, and Poets. it was high energy… Gord Downie was very high energy!
since i was quite close to the stage (but not close enough; there were 3 rows of very tall people in front of me!), i was able to snap a few shots…
this is my third time seeing the band!
i last saw them at Concert for Toronto, a benefit for SARS (2003), and before that during the Trouble at the Henhouse tour (1996)…
saturday i attended the couple’s sikh wedding ceremony. it was my first time attending a sikh ceremony; it was very interesting, and much shorter than a hindu wedding!
it was held at a gurdwara, or sikh temple. as a place of worship, it was appropriate and respectful to remove our shoes and cover our heads during the ceremony.
indian weddings have many rituals and traditions.
the pre-wedding festivities are most fun!
words cannot do justice to the revelry; here’s a video clip of a sikh wedding tradition called milni where both families exchange well wishes (dancing and drumming. gifts and garlands)…
(for you trivia buffs, the drum in the video is called a dhol)
this morning we brunched at cafe select where they have wi-fi! of course i had to blog in situ! i had a goat cheese-mushroom-spinach omelette sans spinach (apparently not because of the e. coli situation, but because they were fresh out of the local variety)…
