during the next fortnight or so, i will be celebrating discardia, a floating holiday which “takes place in the time between the Solstices & Equinoxes and their following new moons” — so between june 21st () and july 14th () i will be celebrating… nothing!

Discardia is celebrated by getting rid of stuff and ideas you no longer need. It’s about letting go, abdicating from obligation and guilt, being true to the self you are now. Discardia is the time to get rid of things that no longer add value to your life, shed bad habits, let go of emotional baggage and generally lighten your load. — MetaGrrrl

this takes my annual summer decluttering catharsis a step further, moving beyond the material into the spiritual, emotional and virtual.

i was searching our library catalogue for books on wikis, and was surprised to find a record for wikipedia added to the catalogue by several hospitals…

first of all, i wonder why the BBC is listed as a contact in the library record’s contents note… the review of wikipedia is from ALA’s RUSA group, and the wikipedia contact us page makes no reference to BBC:

Wikipedia is almost completely operated by volunteers. Though it provides a free service without advertisement, it is a private enterprise and privately funded. It has no “editorial board”, and its articles are written by volunteers around the world.

secondly, i guess in lieu of a family doctor, i will have to consult doctor wikipedia, stat!
