happy 359th day of the year!

it is not yet midnight and the turkey seems to have lulled everyone else to sleep. vegetarians unite!

during our fabulous feast (thanks anne and merran!) we partook in traditional british .

don we now our crafty colourful paper crowns.

while my friends got “recognizable” novelty toys in their cracker (mini-stapler, mini-sewing kit, rubic’s cube key chain, mini-toothbrush, dolphin bracelet, nail clippers, bouncy rubber ball, water gun, shoe horn), i found myself with this item of mystery:

it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…

suggestions so far are: teeth flosser, slingshot, poking device, needle threader… please help identify this mysterious novelty item! is it related to bridge, golf, knitting, karate?

tonight the tragically hip played macewan hall at university of calgary, a much more intimate venue than the usual stadiums they rock out.

they played quite a few songs from their latest CD, World Container, and a mishmash of other songs including 100th Meridian, Blow at High Dough, and Poets. it was high energy… Gord Downie was very high energy!

since i was quite close to the stage (but not close enough; there were 3 rows of very tall people in front of me!), i was able to snap a few shots

and the band played on... tragically hip tragically hip fans tragically hip gord downie gets down! gord downie spotlight

this is my third time seeing the band!

i last saw them at Concert for Toronto, a benefit for SARS (2003), and before that during the Trouble at the Henhouse tour (1996)…
